Rogers Arena & BC Place Stadium
The recent CBC News segment highlighting the challenges around accessible ticketing and how the honour system isn’t working, strongly resonated.
This is a topic Equal Access Collective (EAC) discussed during our Walk and Roll assessments with both Rogers Arena and BC Place Stadium. We’ve experienced firsthand how well intentioned honour systems break down in practice, and why accountability and consistent enforcement are essential.
Just like with accessible parking, when there’s no enforceable system in place, misuse becomes common. And that misuse directly takes away vital access from people who truly need it. Whether it’s accessible ticketing, parking, or other accessibility measures, relying on people to “do the right thing” simply isn’t enough.
Enforcement, clear accountability, and fair compliance mechanisms are critical not optional.
It’s time to move beyond good intentions and build systems that actually work for everyone.
