Bridging Gaps in Accessibility: EAC’s Visit to Costco Wholesale Canada - Langley

Equal Access Collective had a highly productive meeting with Costco Wholesale Canada Langley! We conducted a "walk and roll" accessibility review, and were thrilled to discover that Costco is already doing a lot right when it comes to accessibility.

Here’s what we found:

What Costco is Doing Right:

  • Front Door Service: As soon as you enter, simply let the greeter know you need assistance! A customer service representative will shop with you, helping you get everything you need and guiding you through checkout.

  • Same-Day Delivery: Using the app, you can shop online and get your items delivered right to your home. This is perfect for anyone who wants to skip the in-store experience.

Barriers We Discussed:

  • While Costco has made great strides, we also identified some areas for improvement:

  • Accessible Parking: More van-accessible parking spaces to better serve customers with mobility challenges.

  • Wayfinding Signage: More clear, directional floor signage to help customers navigate the store independently, especially those with visual impairments.

  • App Updates for Screen Readers: Making the Costco app more compatible with screen readers, so those with visual impairments can easily shop online.

We’re excited to see Costco's commitment to accessibility and their openness to further improvement!
